A violation of the FCRA occurs when credit reporting agencies (CRAs) fail to follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy of the information they report, or when furnishers of information fail to reasonably investigate and correct inaccurate information after receiving notice of a dispute. Examples include reporting inaccurate account balances, accounts that don’t belong to you, incorrect payment history, or failing to update information after a bankruptcy discharge to show a zero balance.
